Stairway to Independence is a photojournalism piece done for ECS Media, a publishing house in Kathmandu, Nepal. Dayaram Maharjan founded the Disabled Services Association (DSA), in Bungmati village, which now houses more than 40 children.
The children with disabilities have a special classroom for certain lessons. However, the blind students join the normal classes where they use braille textbooks that were translated by Dayaram.
Adarsha Shaulah Yuwak Higher Secondary School is managed by Dayaram. Unlike most other schools, children with disabilities are welcome here.
